Papin declares Mbappe greatest striker in French national team history

Mbappe's path to historical supremacy

Kylian Mbappe has scored 56 goals in 95 appearances for Les Bleus, leaving him just one goal behind Olivier Giroud's all-time record. He helped France win the 2018 World Cup and reach the final again in 2022, where he scored a hat-trick against Argentina.

  • 56 goals in 95 matches for France
  • One goal behind Olivier Giroud's record
  • 2018 World Cup winner
  • 2022 World Cup final scorer (hat-trick vs Argentina)

Papin makes the ultimate declaration

Jean-Pierre Papin told RMC that Kylian Mbappe is the greatest striker in the history of the French national team and believes he will become even greater. Papin remains the only player to have won the Ballon d'Or while playing for a French club.

"I think that, today, he is the greatest striker in the history of the French team, yes. And you know what? I think he's going to be even greater," Papin declared.

Individual awards vs international glory

Papin admitted he would consider exchanging his Ballon d'Or for a French team title, saying he never played to win the individual award but would have loved to win a World Cup with Les Bleus.
