Liam Rosenior says Mamadou Sarr's PSG mistake will benefit Chelsea defender as coach talks up his potential
A Challenging Night in Europe
On Tuesday, 20‑year‑old centre‑back Mamadou Sarr made his Champions League debut for Chelsea against Paris Saint‑Germain. An early lapse allowed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to open the scoring, contributing to an 8‑2 aggregate defeat that extinguished Chelsea’s comeback hopes.
Rosenior’s Support
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior emphasised that the setback is part of Sarr’s education. He noted Sarr’s strong training response and highlighted the mental resilience required at Stamford Bridge.
"I’ve worked with Mamadou for nearly two years and I'm so excited for his career – that’s why he’s here... Sometimes you have to go through negative experiences to improve. He will come back," Rosenior said.
Looking Ahead
Despite the loss, Rosenior believes the experience will accelerate Sarr’s development. He indicated that the young defender has the temperament to learn from the mistake and become a regular in Chelsea’s back line.
Sarr was recalled from his loan at Strasbourg in the winter window and has made five appearances for Chelsea. He is expected to feature in the upcoming Premier League match against Everton.
