Pep Guardiola’s Man City Successor: Luis Enrique Favoured, Vincent Kompany Future
When does Guardiola's contract at Man City expire?
Guardiola has spent 10 memorable years in English football and has won 19 trophies, including six top-flight titles, five League Cup triumphs, the Champions League as part of a historic Treble and the FIFA Club World Cup. He has indicated that his current deal at the Etihad will be his last, meaning a prominent Premier League post will open up in a little over 12 months’ time.
Why Enrique would be the perfect successor to Guardiola
Former City captain Richard Dunne told GOAL that Luis Enrique is “probably the one with the biggest identity, the one that you know what you're getting straight away and he tends to be a success wherever he goes.” Dunne added that Enrique’s style and player profile would suit Man City perfectly and, if everything aligned, would be the best replacement possible.
“He has a way of playing, a profile of players that he likes to get in and it's something that would suit Man City perfectly. If it worked out and everything aligned perfectly, that would be the best replacement possible.” – Richard Dunne
Is Kompany a Man City manager of the future?
Dunne sees Vincent Kompany as a familiar face for City down the line. Kompany is currently at Bayern Munich, works with England captain Harry Kane and has experienced promotion and relegation with Burnley. Dunne praised Bayern’s togetherness and said Kompany will be on City's radar in a few years' time after gaining more experience.
